How do I add articles or references to Academic Writer using RIS files?

Answer

To import article references into Academic Writer, you will look for the RIS option in each database.  It's a little different in each database, but the general idea will be the same:  Find the RIS option, save the RIS file, then upload that RIS file to Academic Writer.

In this example, I am using CINAHL which is an EBSCO database.   NOTE: you can export single article references OR you can select multiple articles and then export the list.  The instructions below will work for both options.

When you find an article or list of articles that you want to use, look for a "citation" icon.  In EBSCO, it looks like this:

Then choose the Export Citation option:

Then select Export in RIS format. And then save the file that is created for you.

Next, open Academic Writer.  Go to the References Center and select Add References.
Select the Import tab:

Next, select the RIS origin point (in this example, I am using EBSCO).  Other popular SAU databases that you might use are ProQuest and OVID.  Click on Browse and then select the RIS file that you saved from the database.  Last step is to click on the Submit button.  Now your article references are ready for you when you write your paper!

When you write your paper, look for the "Reference" option at the bottom of the screen:

Hope that helps!
